Fleur LeenenTeam Leader US
Areas of expertise
Fleur is a highly accomplished computational biologist and statistician with over 10 years of experience in applied data analytics both in the academic and industrial environment. She holds a PhD in computational biology from the University of Trier (Germany), as well as two master’s degrees, in Molecular Biology from the KU Leuven (Belgium) and in Statistical Data Analysis from the UGhent (Belgium). During her PhD, mainly carried out at the Luxembourg Institute of Health, Fleur focused on epigenomics and transcriptomics and established Next Generation Sequencing, developed various pipelines for computational biology and statistics, and set up epigenetics computational analyses. After completing her doctoral studies, she conducted brief postdoctoral studies at the University of Toronto (Canada) before joining BISC Global in 2018 as a Senior Consultant to launch the newly formed department in Boston.
In Boston, Fleur was central to building over a dozen of long-lasting customer relationships, managing both business development and project execution. Her wide range of expertise in genomics, epigenomics, immunology, transcriptomics and statistics proved to be key to manage a broad portfolio of clients and was a quintessential component for BISC Global to become a stable source for bioinformatics consulting in the area.
In 2020, Fleur moved to the San Francisco Bay Area to lead the expansion of BISC Global to the US West Coast, in the role of local site manager and principal consultant. During her transition, she successfully acquired funding from the Belgian government for BISC Global to support a software development project on immune repertoire analysis (IRIS) as well as a Eurostars grant for African Swine Fever Virus Vaccine development, where BISC Global functions as partner for all data processing and analytics. Currently, Fleur functions as the team leader for our US team.
“In my role as a team lead, I really enjoy working with people, coaching them to develop their skills and excel in their projects. On the technical side, I enjoy being confronted with new challenges, learning about new techniques and technologies, and finding out how we can practically implement these tools in our customers’ projects.”
When not behind her computer working, Fleur spends time hiking, horse riding, training martial arts and tending to her vegetable garden.
